Fashionista Meets Hospital Gown

How do you like my new fashion statement? I love it! (I’m the one in bloom.)

I think the colors are especially becoming, don’t you?

Okay, you probably noticed the hospital gown, too, but who cares about that!

Gown, Schmown… Go for the glory.

Anyway that’s what I’d like to think my friend Pamela was thinking when she fashioned her latest vogue creation for me: Darling Dahlias.

And Darling they are; and as you can see, so is she.

We laughed forever, and as I walked the halls in style, EVERYONE smiled.

I smiled back.

Thank you, Sweet Pea, for the scent of happiness you sprayed in my sterile room and eager heart!

And for those of you who may be wondering about that hospital gown, yep, I wore it for three nights. Heck, I even wore it for three days. 🙂

I went to the hospital through the back door (ER) due to fever.

Weeks earlier I had told my Doc I was toughing out high temps to stay out of the hospital–something I wanted to do at all costs.  He told me it was my choice, but I could possibly die within six hours of getting a fever.

Oops!

I quickly back-pedaled. “Well, maybe not at ALL costs. Not yet, anyway. I’m too busy living.”

So after I got over being too sick to get out of bed, I went off on adventure down those now lit-up-with-a-flower-on-my-head halls and guess what I found outside? (Never know where adventure may take you.)

Heaven!

Heaven!

More Heaven!

More Heaven!

But you know the best part of all?

Thanks to my friend, Pamela, I got to Heaven in style!

Yuk, Yuk!

    Gayle,
How pretty you look and what special friends you have. I wish I were being more supportive and if there is anything I can do, please tell me. I do pray for you every day and think of your often. Can you get out for outside meals?
    Jan

    • gayle says:

Hi Jan. You are one of my special friends! Yes, I can get outside–just can’t do late afternoons or evenings, and never know from day to day. ! am Hoping to get back on that bike of mine, and on the trail, and, and, and,….

Good Morning Glory! “Sweet Pea” had one of her Best Days, just spending time with you. You are truly a “Glory,” and fill my life with so much joy! I’m glad you like your “fashionista,” goodies … you look adorable!

    • gayle says:

You always make me smile! And I never know what you’re up to, which is part of your charm. Thanks again for the great day!

How fun! I think you’re on to something, Gayle. If bald-headed babies can wear those flower bands, no reason bald-headed chemo patients can’t be just as cute. Your recent post inspired me to attend Debbie’s last painting class. I know you would have been there if you could. Hopefully we’ll see you at another one of her classes. You were right, it was really fun. You’re so beautiful, Gayle. You’re a true inspiration to all. Lots of love,
    Canda

    • gayle says:

Actually, Pamela is the one who is on to something; I’m just the recipient. I am so happy you attended Debbie’s class. Isn’t she wonderful? I’ll have to ask her to send me a photo of you and your painting. Hope to see you at the next one.

Your silver lining aura is touching my heart no matter what the distance. Thank you for the story and the image of life being lived with so much love and appreciation. You have made my day.

    • gayle says:

Must be quite a day, then, because you know how to live! Wish you could join us when Liz comes to visit. Redding would never be the same! Hope you’re happy and sassy!

  6. Sandi Howell says:

What a beautiful way to adorn that lovely little head of yours! I can only imagine the way you lit up that hospital! How fortunate for those who saw you those days! The garden here still awaits you anytime! ((HUGS))

  7. Well, lovely lady… You are gorgeous! Oh, the pink bloom is a perfect match for your fantastic smile. And just look at those Koi – a bit of paradise right there just for you, don’t you know? Flashes of pink to match your flower! See, sometimes it pays to not try and tough it out (take it from one who avoids hospitals at all costs, too!) You have inspired me to not be so stubborn.

    • gayle says:

Heck, I still want you to be stubborn! 🙂 Just know when to hold em and when to fold em! Hope all is well at your animal sanctuary. Tell Christina hello for me!

  8. Peggie says:

Not knowing what to say or do, I continue to send my prayers your way. You are such a beautiful breath of fresh air and I love you.

  9. Amy Gruett says:

Hi Gayle, You look MARVELOUS!!!! I love the flower headband! You have a smile to light up the room. Sorry that you ended up in the hospital. I can’t wait to see another picture of you on your bike! Sending you more love and hugs!!!!

    • gayle says:

Thanks, Amy! I love that you hold the picture of me on my bike! Hopefully I will be sending it soon! Hmmm, wonder if that flower fits over a bike helmet!

  10. Lynda Nolte says:

    Hey Gayle,
You just had to get another feaver, Oh My! … glad you finally gave in and went to the hospital. So glad to hear you are at home and more comfortable. That was quite the fashion statement though, and I am sure you have touched many with your strength. What a nice touch to have the water feature and koi. I know how much the water features help my soul. Keep being stubborn, and please call or send an email if I can do anything… I am enjoying life more and more 🙂

    • gayle says:

You just did something for me–you told me you are enjoying life more and more! Nothing could make me happier. If you’re ever in town on Friday mornings, let me know. There’s a great place to paint I’d like to share with you.

  11. Sandy Tincher says:

Hi Gayle, Really like your dahlia headband; such a neat idea. Anyway, as you can see we have a new e-mail. Our old one was hacked into so we had to change. Please put it on your blog so I receive your blog writeups. I really enjoy them. You are such a good writer. Hope to see you again soon. Love, Sandy
